Mario Kart 3DS To Have A “Fresh Start”

Mario Kart is a classic Nintendo game that I’m sure a lot of you out there love to play. Nintendo has just announced that it’s planning to make Mario Kart “fun and exciting” for the Nintendo 3DS.
During an interview, Hideki Konno, the series head of Mario Kart hinted that the team may be thinking up some ideas to help “balance” the racer’s item gameplay - including maybe even a re-think of the blue shell.

“Going back to the blue shell, it sounds like maybe you have some issues with it,” Konno joked with Kotaku. “I’m not trying to project or anything. I think in our next Mario Kart, we’ll be looking at the balance and I think we’ll come up with some answers and some solutions to make the game fresh and exciting as we move forward.”One thing is for certain is that power-ups will still be in the Mario Kart 3DS version.“I’m often asked, hey, in Mario Kart, could you please make a mode where there are no items. Let us race,” the producer said. “But personally I think Mario Kart without items is not Mario Kart. Our goal, of course, is to keep the items in but just balance it well.”
As for the infamous blue shell that annoys the heck out of all its users, he said that in Mario Kart Wii “at least you can avoid it”. (I’ve never been able to do so just yet.)

“Fundamentally we’re always playing while we’re making adjustments [to the games,]” he explained. “We usually have some sort of theme to direct what we’re looking at. With [2008's] Mario Kart Wii, it was to create a race where, up until the finish line, you didn’t know. We wanted to create a race where everyone was in it until the end. With Mario Kart 64, we wanted to have the same thing where everyone was in it until the end, but some of the processing problems occurred that didn’t allow us to do that.”

Rumor has it the Mario Kart 3DS will be released later this year, so if you managed to get a Nintendo 3DS prepare for the countdown!
